About This Guide

A water-flush automatic wheat farm that harvests crops at the push of a button. Dispensers release water across farmland, breaking fully grown wheat and washing items into hoppers. Simple, reliable, and expandable. This beginner farm build works in Minecraft Java Edition and Bedrock Edition, version 1.20+ and above. Budget around 15-20 minutes for construction — have all materials in your inventory before you begin.

Difficulty: Beginner

This build earns its Beginner rating because it uses straightforward block placement with no redstone knowledge required. You can finish it in your first survival session using materials gathered from early-game exploration. It’s a great confidence-builder before tackling larger projects.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Build the Frame and Water Channel

Place cobblestone borders along both long sides (8 blocks each). Dig a 1-block deep water channel down the center, 8 blocks long. Place water source blocks at each end of the channel.

💡 Tip: The center water channel hydrates farmland up to 4 blocks away — perfect for our 2-row design.

Step 2: Place the Farmland

Place dirt blocks along both sides of the water channel (8 per side). Use a hoe to till the dirt into farmland. Plant wheat seeds on every farmland block.

💡 Tip: Don't jump on farmland — it turns back to dirt! Walk carefully or sneak when near crops.

Step 3: Add Water Dispensers

At one end of the farm, place a dispenser facing each farmland row. Fill each dispenser with a water bucket. When triggered, they release water that flows across the farmland breaking all grown wheat.

💡 Tip: Water flows 8 blocks max — exactly enough to cover our 8-block farmland rows.

Step 4: Build Glass Side Walls

Place glass blocks one high along both cobblestone borders. This keeps the water flush contained so items don't spill out the sides. Glass lets you see the crops growing.

💡 Tip: Glass walls keep items from washing off the sides while letting sunlight through for crop growth.

Step 5: Add Collection and Redstone

At the far end from dispensers, place a hopper connected to a chest. The water flush pushes all wheat and seeds to this collection point. Wire redstone from a button to both dispensers using a comparator.

💡 Tip: Use a comparator loop to pulse the dispensers — first press releases water, second press pulls it back.

Step 6: Plant and Harvest

Plant wheat seeds on all farmland. Wait for wheat to fully grow (golden color). Press the button to flush water across the fields. Seeds and wheat collect in the chest. Replant and repeat!

💡 Tip: Bone meal speeds up growth dramatically. Use fortune-enchanted tools on the wheat for extra drops.
